Getting Started

Thank you for purchasing our theme. We have created this document that covers installation, set up, and valuable answers to common questions. We therefore encourage you to read this document thoroughly if you are experiencing any difficulties.

Theme download

After the successful single theme or Theme Bundle purchase you will receive an email with an individual download link for your theme or Theme Bundle. The installation zip file is named after the theme and is always in all lower case letters. In this case it is named “makerly.zip”.

Theme installation

To install our theme you must have a working version of WordPress.org already installed. For more information regarding the installation of the WordPress platform, please try the WordPress Documentation. Follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the WordPress Admin panel.
  2. Go to Appearance → Themes.
  3. Click on the Add New button, at the top of the screen.
  4. In Add Themes screen, click on Upload Theme.
  5. Click on Choose theme, and then browse for theme file on your computer (makerly.zip).
  6. Click on Install Now to start the install process.
  7. After the installation is done, click on Activate theme.

*When uploading your theme, please ensure you are uploading the theme’s installation .zip file (name consists of all lower case letters). If a wrong zip file is uploaded to WordPress you’ll encounter an error message saying: “The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet.” In that case make sure that you unzip the main package and install the theme installation zip file named “makerly.zip”.

Theme update

To update your theme just follow these steps:

  1. Download the latest theme version and locate the theme installation zip named “makerly.zip”.
  2. Navigate to Appearance → Themes.
  3. Click on the Add New button, at the top of the screen.
  4. In Add Themes screen, click on Upload Theme.
  5. Click on Choose theme, and then browse for theme file on your computer (makerly.zip).
  6. Click on Install Now to start the install process.
  7. After the installation is done, click on Activate theme.

It is recommended to backup a site before doing theme or plugin updates.

Theme setup

You will find all the customization settings for this theme under Appearance → Editor.

  1. Custom Logo. Go to Site inside Appearance → Editor>. To select Site Logo block, you can do it from the Block Editor Content Area or the List View. By clicking on the Site Logo block the Media Library will open. From here you can upload a new image, or choose one from youy library.
  2. Site title. By default, Makerly display your site title next to your site logo. If you don’t want show your site title, just remove the Site Title block on the Site page in Appearance → Editor.
  3. Change the background color of the Header. In Site page, select the Group block that is just below the Header block (Dark, Large) in the List View. Once this Group block is selected, go to the right panel (or Block Setting panel). Under the Color section you can change the background color to one of the predefined, or choose a completely customized one.
  4. Change Header Content. Makerly displays a text next to an image inside the header, but you can modify it to your liking. If we go to Site page, inside the Header block (Dark, Large) there is a block called Columns. This block is the content of the header, and you can change its text and image, replace these blocks with others, or delete them.

Click the Save button to ensure any changes you have made to your Options are saved to your database.

Sticky Posts

Sticky posts get a special treatment that makes them display above other posts, and span full content width. You can set one or more of your posts as “sticky” by following these steps.

Custom Navigation Menus

You can set Custom Navigation Menus anywhere on your site thanks to the Navigation block. Makerly has these blocks already added in the header and footer.

Setup Navigation Menu

To set up your customized menus:

  1. Go to Appearance → Editor, until you reach the Site page.
  2. Select the Navigation block in the Editor Content Area or the List View.
  3. Inside the Navigation block will be the Page List block, which will automatically add any page we create in WordPress to your navigation menu. If you don’t want this, you can delete the Page List block.
  4. To create a new menu select he Navigation block and click on the + icon. A floating window will appear from which you can add pages that you have created in WordPress to your navigation menu, or search for them directly by typing in the search engine. you can also add links to external pages if you put an URL in this search engine.
  5. Among these options, you can activate the Open in a new tab, so the link in your menu have this functionality.

Create submenus

You can make submenus for any of the elements in your navigation menu:

  1. Select the element iof your navigation menu that you want to host a submenu.
  2. Click the Add submenu icon in the top toolbar.
  3. A + icon will appear. When you click on it, will allow you to add new elements to your submenu.

Social Menu

You can also add links to your social networks in the navigation menu.

  1. With the Navigation block selected, click on the + icon that appears above the block to add a new element.
  2. Select the Social Icons block in the new pop-up window.
  3. With the Social Icons block selected, you can add blocks to different social networks by clicking on the + symbol that will appear. Each time you select one of these blocks, an icon with its corresponding logo will be added to your menu.
  4. If you click on the social icon, you can add your personal social network URL.

If you select the Social Icons block, you can modify its appearance thanks to the Block Settings panel. Some of these options are display the name of the social network next to its logo, or to change the color of the logo.

With Makerly you can create your own image carousel easily, from the WordPress editor itself. Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Add the Gallery block to your page or post, and upload or select from your media library the images you want to be part of your gallery.
  2. With the Gallery block selected, go to the right block settings panel, and at the bottom of the Advanced section, in the Additional CSS class(es) field, write the code makerly-slider.


After that, just save your page or post to display the image carousel on your website.

Restore templates default values

You can easily return to the default values, content and style of Makerly theme.

  1. Go to Appearance → Editor.
  2. Click on the WordPress icon in the upper left corner to display the Editor panel.
  3. Whether you go to Templates or Templates Parts, you can see a list of all the templates. Next to the name of the templates, you will see an icon. If this icon has a blue circle above it, you have made some kind of change to that template.
  4. To return to the default state of a template, click on the icon with three dots on the right side, and an option called Clear customizations will open. If we click on this option, the template will return to its default state.

This option is useful when you have made several unwanted changes, or you have modified something in the theme and want to return to its initial state.

This theme is compatible with some third-party plugins that add some extra interesting features:

Additional CSS

In the Additional CSS section located in Appearance → Customize → Additional CSS, you can enter your custom CSS classes, so you don’t need to mess with original styles, or create a child theme.
