Getting Started

Thank you for purchasing our theme. We have created this document that covers installation, set up, and valuable answers to common questions. We therefore encourage you to read this document thoroughly if you are experiencing any difficulties.

Theme download

After the successful single theme or Theme Bundle purchase you will receive an email with an individual download link for your theme or Theme Bundle. The installation zip file is named after the theme and is always in all lower case letters. In this case it is named “arquio.zip”.

Theme installation

To install our theme you must have a working version of WordPress.org already installed. For more information regarding the installation of the WordPress platform, please try the WordPress Documentation. Follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the WordPress Admin panel.
  2. Go to Appearance → Themes.
  3. Click on the Add New button, at the top of the screen.
  4. In Add Themes screen, click on Upload Theme.
  5. Click on Choose theme, and then browse for theme file on your computer (arquio.zip).
  6. Click on Install Now to start the install process.
  7. After the installation is done, click on Activate theme.

*When uploading your theme, please ensure you are uploading the theme’s installation .zip file (name consists of all lower case letters). If a wrong zip file is uploaded to WordPress you’ll encounter an error message saying: “The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet.” In that case make sure that you unzip the main package and install the theme installation zip file named “arquio.zip”.

Theme setup

Since the latest versions of WordPress, all theme customization options can be found under Appearance → Editor. These customizations range from more general aspects, such as changing the background color of the template or its typography, to more specific themes, such as modifying the website logo or rearranging the footer.

The most relevant sections we will find are the following:

Styles

In the Styles we will be able to modify fonts and colors. We can also customize any block to our liking globally, so we don’t have to do it every time we are going to use it. Regarding fonts, Arquio uses Playfair Display by default in the headers, and Commissioner in the paragraphs, which we can replace at any time if we wish. We can also create a custom color palette beyond the default one.

Templates

With templates we can modify or create different layouts for specific pages, and use them later to add content. By default, Arquio already includes the design of different templates, such as the individual entries, 404 page or the search results page. These pre-designed templates can also be modified in case we don’t want to create a template from scratch.

If at any time we want to return to the original design of an Arquio templates, we will go to Templates → Manage all templates. Here a list will appear with all the templates created, and in the Added by column we will see the text Customized if that template has undergone any modification. To return it to its original design, just click on the icon with the 3 dots on the right, and select Clear customizations.

Patterns

In the Patterns section we will be able to manage both custom patterns (which we will see later), as well as patterns that are part of the template, such as the Header or Footer. Regarding the Header, we can customize it as follows:

  1. Custom Logo – Under Appearance → Editor, we will go to Patterns → Header to access the header editing page. Once here, we will only have to look for the Site Logo block of the site to add the logo we want.
  2. Site Title – Under Appearance → Editor, we will go to Patterns → Header to access the header editing page. Once here, we will only have to look for the Site Title block to be able to add the text we want.

Click the Save button in the editor to ensure that the changes you have made are saved in your database.

Sticky Posts

Sticky posts get a special treatment that makes them display above other posts, and span full content width. You can set one or more of your posts as “sticky” by following these steps.

Custom Navigation Menus

You can set Custom Navigation Menus anywhere on your site thanks to the Navigation block. Arquio has these blocks already added in the header and footer.

Setup Navigation Menu

To set up your customized menus:

  1. Go to Appearance → Editor, and select Patterns → Header.
  2. Select the Navigation block in the Editor Content Area or the List View.
  3. By default, inside the Navigation block will be the Page List block, which will automatically add any page we create to our navigation menu. If we do not want this, we can delete the Page List block.
  4. To create a new menu select he Navigation block and click on the + icon. A floating window will appear from which you can add pages that you have created in WordPress to your navigation menu, or search for them directly by typing in the search engine. you can also add links to external pages if you put an URL in this search engine.
  5. Among these options, you can activate the Open in a new tab, so the link in your menu have this functionality.

Create submenus

You can make submenus for any of the elements in your navigation menu:

  1. Select the element iof your navigation menu that you want to host a submenu.
  2. Click the Add submenu icon in the top toolbar.
  3. A + icon will appear. When you click on it, will allow you to add new elements to your submenu.

Social Menu

By default, Arquio comes with a social menu already active in the footer. This social menu can be placed in another position, add or remove elements, or even delete it if we are not interested. To access it, just follow the steps below:.

  1. Go to Appearance → Editor.
  2. From all the options in the left side menu, choose Patterns → Footer, and click on the preview of the pattern that appears on the right..
  3. Once inside the Footer editing page, we can access the Social Icons block either by clicking on it inside the viewport, or by searching for it in the block list view. Personally, I prefer the latter method, as it allows a more accurate block selection..
  4. Once we have selected the Social Icons block, we can add new social networks (with their corresponding links), change the order of the icons, delete icons, or directly delete this block if we do not want to use it.

If you select the Social Icons block, you can modify its appearance thanks to the Block Settings panel. Some of these options are display the name of the social network next to its logo, or to change the color of the logo.

Restore templates default values

You can easily return to the default values, content and style of Arquio theme.

  1. Go to Appearance → Editor.
  2. Click on the WordPress icon in the upper left corner to display the Editor panel.
  3. Whether you go to Templates or Templates Parts, you can see a list of all the templates. Next to the name of the templates, you will see an icon. If this icon has a blue circle above it, you have made some kind of change to that template.
  4. To return to the default state of a template, click on the icon with three dots on the right side, and an option called Clear customizations will open. If we click on this option, the template will return to its default state.

This option is useful when you have made several unwanted changes, or you have modified something in the theme and want to return to its initial state.

Custom Patterns

Included with Arquio are 10 patterns designed specifically for our template. Thanks to them, you can easily add any of the sections that make up Arquio to a page or post you create. To find these patterns, just go to the Patterns section of the WordPress editor, and there click on the Arquio category. The complete list of our patterns will appear, ready for you to add them to your website.

The advantages offered by the patterns is that, once you have inserted them into your post or page, you can modify its content to your liking: change texts, photos, videos, colors… Thanks to this, you will save having to create a design from scratch, but you can take advantage of the base offered by the patterns to adapt it to your needs.

This is the complete list of custom patterns available in Arquio:

  • Header with image
  • Header with video
  • 3-column page layout
  • 2-column page layout
  • Asymmetrical 2-column page layout
  • Linea vertical de separación entre secciones
  • Vertical line of separation between sections
  • Side header with 4 columns of content
  • Side header with 3 columns of content
  • Side header with 2 columns of content
  • Side header with 1 columns of content

Additional CSS

In order to add custom CSS, we go to Appearance → Editor. In the left sidebar, we click on Styles, and from there we will see on the right side an option called Additional CSS. If we enter it, a text area will appear where we can enter the custom CSS we want.

This theme is compatible with some third-party plugins that add some extra interesting features:

  • Jetpack: to build custom forms and slideshow module.
