Getting Started

Thank you for purchasing our theme. We have created this document that covers installation, set up, and valuable answers to common questions. We therefore encourage you to read this document thoroughly if you are experiencing any difficulties.

Theme download

After the successful single theme or Theme Bundle purchase you will receive an email with an individual download link for your theme or Theme Bundle. The installation zip file is named after the theme and is always in all lower case letters. In this case it is named “gabriela.zip”.

Theme installation

To install our theme you must have a working version of WordPress.org already installed. For more information regarding the installation of the WordPress platform, please try the WordPress Documentation. Follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the WordPress Admin panel.
  2. Go to Appearance → Themes.
  3. Click on the Add New button, at the top of the screen.
  4. In Add Themes screen, click on Upload Theme.
  5. Click on Choose theme, and then browse for theme file on your computer (gabriela.zip).
  6. Click on Install Now to start the install process.
  7. After the installation is done, click on Activate theme.

*When uploading your theme, please ensure you are uploading the theme’s installation .zip file (name consists of all lower case letters). If a wrong zip file is uploaded to WordPress you’ll encounter an error message saying: “The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet.” In that case make sure that you unzip the main package and install the theme installation zip file named “gabriela.zip”.

Theme setup

You will find all the customization settings for this theme under Appearance → Customize.

  1. Custom Logo. Under Site Identity you have the possibility to upload your own logo image. The best thing to do is to use a transparent PNG as logo image or an image that has the same background color as your header. You can also decide whether or not you want to display the title, tagline and/or your logo image.
  2. Custom Header Image. Pick an image from your Media Library, or upload something new.
  3. Custom Background. You can customize your site’s background. Choose a background color, or upload your own background image. In order to keep the text readable, we suggest a lighter background image
  4. Widget Areas. Gabriela offers five widget areas: the Main Widget Area, three optional Footer Widget Areas, and a Prefooter Widget Area, perfect for featuring your Instagram feed using the Instagram Widget. If you don’t add any widgets to the sidebar or footers, the area won’t be displayed.
  5. Theme Options. You can hide certain elements using the checkboxes. Use this to stick the header menu to the top of the page, hide featured images from posts, or hide the social menu in different locations.

Click the Save & Publish button to ensure any changes you have made to your Options are saved to your database. Once you click the button, the button text changes to “Saved” telling you your settings have been saved.

To show the Featured Post slider at the top of your front page, you should install the Jetpack Plugin. After that:

  1. Choose a specific tag.
  2. Assign it to up to ten posts that you want to display in the slider.
  3. Add the tag you selected under Appearance → Customize → Featured Content.
  4. Click the Save & Publish

The Featured Images for posts in the slider must be 1140px wide by 500px high. Since the Featured Images are displayed quite big, make sure your images are large enough. You can reduce the file size by compressing and saving them at a lower quality.

Sticky Posts

Sticky posts get a special treatment that makes them display above other posts, and span full content width. You can set one or more of your posts as “sticky” by following these steps.

Custom Menus

You can set up Custom Menus for the Primary Menu in the header, and a Social Links Menu in the Header Navigation, Header Section, and Footer.

Primary Menu

To setup your custom menus:

  1. Navigate to Appearance → Menus.
  2. Give your menu a name and create your menu items using the available widgets. You can add a variety of items including pages, categories, custom links.
  3. To extend the available widgets, click the Screen Options tab at the very top of the screen and configure your options.
  4. Once you’ve added all your items to your menu, be sure to click Save Menu.
  5. Then, set the Display location selecting the best option for this menu.

This theme is compatible with some third-party plugins that add some extra interesting features:

Additional CSS

In the Additional CSS section located in Appearance → Customize → Additional CSS, you can enter your custom CSS classes, so you don’t need to mess with original styles, or create a child theme. Of course, you should create a child theme if you plan to modify other files, as well. Clic here to read more about adding Custom CSS to WordPress.
